New courses 2023

In addition to the courses during the semester, students and employees can also improve their language skills in compact intensive courses during the term break; this year, we provide courses in English and Italian.

Intensiv course A1 in September 2023

During the term break, we offer a compact two-week intensive Italian language course at level A1 (for absolute beginners).

Where? Philosophicum, Jakob-Welder-Weg 18, 55128 Mainz. The classroom will be announced in Jogustine.

When? The course takes place from 18.09. to 29.09.2023 and has 40 teaching hours (08:45 - 12:15).

What? The content of the course includes the first four units of the textbook (UniversItalia 2.0 - Volume 1 - Hueber Verlag 2021 - ISBN 978-3-19-165463-4).

After a successfully written exam, 4 ECTS will be assigned. Registration is via Jogustine (Jogustine-Studium-Module- Zusatzqualifikationen). Places are given on a first come-first served basis). Seats on the course are limited to 30 participants.

Please note that after successfully completing the intensive language course, you can attend an Italian course at level A2 in the following two semesters.

Crash Course B1+ Conversation and Grammar

During the term break, we provide an intensive English language course at the B1+ level for JGU students and employees. This course is designed to allow students a better transition between the B1 and B2 levels. The focus of the course is on conversation and grammar skills. The purpose of the course is to establish a bridge between university teaching and everyday language practice with the support of authentic teaching materials.

The course takes place from 11.09.2023 to 22.09.2023 and has 40 teaching hours (09:00 - 12:15) . After a successfully written exam, 4 ECTS will be assigned. The capacity of the course is limited to 30 participants.

Registration is via Jogustine (Jogustine-Study-Modules- Additional Qualifications). Places are given on a first come-first served basis). Please note that after successful completion of the intensive course, you can attend an English course at level B2 in the following two semesters.

Crash Course A2+

During the term break, we offer students at JGU Mainz and Mainz University of Applied Science an intensive English language course at level A2+. This course is designed to allow students a better understanding in sentences and frequently used expressions, that relate to areas of very immediate relevance (e.g. very basic personal and family information, shopping, local geography, workplace).

The course takes place from 18.09.2023 - 29.09.2023 and has 40 teaching hours (09:00 - 13:00). After a successfully written exam, 3 ECTS will be assigned. The capacity of the course is limited to 26 participants (13 students from JGU Mainz and 13 students from Mainz University of Applied Sciences). Places are given on a first come-first served basis).
Please note that after successfully completion of the intensive course, you can attend an English course at level B2 in the following two semesters. Registration for JGU students takes place via Jogustine (Jogustine-Studium-Module- Zusatzqualifikationen / Platzvergabe nach dem First Come-First Served-Prinzip).

Please note that after successful completion of the intensive course, you can attend an English course at the B1.1 level in the following two semesters.

The newly created digital course on academic writing in English can be attended for the first time in the winter semester 2023/24.
